5. Participation & Risk

Judo is a physical, full-contact sport and participation carries an inherent risk of injury.

By becoming a member, participants (or parents/guardians on behalf of junior members) acknowledge and accept the risks associated with participation in judo training and related club activities.

JB Judo maintains appropriate insurance for the activities it delivers. Members are encouraged to consider obtaining their own personal accident or other appropriate insurance should they wish to have additional protection.

Members are responsible for ensuring they are medically fit to participate, informing the club of any relevant medical conditions or injuries, and notifying the club should their circumstances change.

Nothing within these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where such liability cannot legally be excluded under the laws of England and Wales.

6. Payments

Membership fees are collected by monthly recurring payment.

Membership fees remain payable whether or not the member attends scheduled classes.

7. Payment Pauses

JB Judo does not offer payment pauses or membership freezes as part of its standard membership.

In exceptional circumstances, the club may, at its sole discretion, agree to temporarily suspend a membership. This will normally only be considered where a member has sustained a significant long-term injury whilst participating in JB Judo activities or in other exceptional circumstances determined solely by the club.

Any approved pause is entirely discretionary and does not create an entitlement or precedent for future requests.

8. Cancellation

Membership may be cancelled by providing a minimum of 30 days’ written notice by email to the club’s official contact email address: jbjudo21@gmail.com

Notice submitted by text message, social media, messaging applications or verbal communication will not be accepted.

Membership fees remain payable throughout the notice period.

9. Rejoining the Club

Where a membership has been cancelled, any future return to JB Judo will be treated as a new enrolment.

The current enrolment fee, membership pricing and enrolment process applicable at the time of rejoining will apply.

10. Attendance

Membership reserves a member’s place within the club.

Where a member chooses not to attend sessions for any reason, membership fees remain payable and no refunds, credits or reductions in membership fees will be provided.

11. Cancelled Classes

Occasionally sessions may be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to venue closure, severe weather, coach illness, facility issues, safety concerns or other unforeseen circumstances.

Where reasonably practicable, members will be offered the opportunity to attend an alternative suitable class.

No refund, credit or reduction in membership fees will be provided where a session cannot take place.

12. Timetable & Programme Changes

JB Judo reserves the right to:

Amend class times.

Change venues.

Change coaches.

Alter age groups.

Adjust session lengths.

Introduce or remove classes.

Amend membership structures.

Modify programmes where reasonably necessary.

Reasonable notice will be provided wherever practicable.

13. Membership Pricing

JB Judo reserves the right to amend membership fees, enrolment fees and its pricing structure where reasonably necessary.

Reasonable notice will be provided before any revised pricing comes into effect.

Membership fees may vary between members depending on factors including, but not limited to, their date of enrolment, the pricing structure in place when they joined, subsequent price increases, or any legacy pricing arrangements; each member’s pricing is individual to their membership and does not create any entitlement to, or obligation for JB Judo to offer, the same pricing or terms to any other member.

14. Coach Decisions

The Head Coach reserves the right to determine class placement, grading eligibility, progression, promotions, attendance suitability and any coaching decisions based upon safety, maturity, ability, conduct and the best interests of both the member and the club.

All coaching decisions are final.

15. Club Equipment & Facilities

Members agree to treat all club equipment, mats, venue facilities and property with care and respect.

Any deliberate or reckless damage may result in the member being held responsible for the cost of repair or replacement.

16. Photography & Video

From time to time JB Judo may take photographs or videos for coaching, promotional or marketing purposes.

Consent will be managed in accordance with the member’s enrolment preferences and applicable UK data protection legislation.

17. Behaviour & Representation of the Club

Members, parents and spectators are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively upon JB Judo.

This expectation extends beyond club sessions, particularly when wearing or displaying JB Judo branded clothing or merchandise, attending competitions or courses, or representing the club in any capacity.

Behaviour that brings the club into disrepute, whether in person or online, may result in disciplinary action, suspension or termination of membership at the discretion of the Head Coach.

18. Personal Property

Members are responsible for their own belongings.

JB Judo accepts no responsibility for loss, theft or damage to personal possessions unless required by law.

19. Force Majeure & Alternative Delivery

JB Judo shall not be liable for any interruption, delay or alteration to its services arising from circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to extreme weather, flooding, fire, pandemic, epidemic, government restrictions, lockdowns, venue closure, industrial action, utility failure, acts of terrorism, civil unrest or any other event outside the reasonable control of the club.

Where in-person training cannot safely or legally take place, JB Judo reserves the right to provide an alternative programme of coaching. This may include, but is not limited to, online classes, technical tuition, fitness sessions, educational content and other remote learning opportunities.

During any such period, memberships shall continue as normal while alternative services are being provided. Members choosing to cancel remain subject to the standard 30-day cancellation notice period. Should they later wish to return, the club’s current enrolment process, including any applicable enrolment fee, will apply.

20. Data Protection & Communications

JB Judo processes personal information in accordance with applicable UK data protection legislation.

Personal information may be used for the administration, safeguarding and operation of the club, management of memberships and enquiries, and, where permitted by law, to communicate with individuals regarding JB Judo classes, trials, events, services, offers and other relevant opportunities.

Personal information will be retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and in accordance with JB Judo’s data retention practices.

Individuals may opt out of marketing communications at any time and may request the deletion of their personal information where applicable under data protection law.

21. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

22. Amendments to These Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions are a living document.

JB Judo reserves the right to amend, update, modify or replace these Terms & Conditions at any time where reasonably necessary for the operation, administration, development or legal compliance of the club.

The most recent version shall take effect from the date it is published by the club.

Where practicable, members will be notified of significant amendments. Continued membership following the publication of updated Terms & Conditions shall constitute acceptance of the revised Terms & Conditions, and individual consent to each amendment shall not be required.
